Geneva Community Unit School District 304 (IL) Selects Synergy SIS
Modernization of district student data management solution will provide opportunities for enhanced communication, growth, and efficiency
Edupoint® Educational Systems today announced that Geneva Community Unit School District 304 (Geneva 304) has selected the company’s industry-leading Synergy® Student Information System (SIS) for its K-12 student data management needs. Geneva 304 serves over 5,000 students near Chicago.
After nearly 20 years with its current SIS, Geneva 304 convened an evaluation team representing a variety of user roles to answer two big questions. First, the team was tasked with deciding whether it was time to consider switching to a more modern, mature solution that the district could grow into over time. If the answer to that question was “yes,” the team would explore the marketplace and identify the two strongest candidates for in-depth evaluation.
The 13-member core team surveyed potential SIS solutions and determined that modernization made sense. The team then narrowed the field to Synergy SIS and one other solution, convening a functional review team comprised of 24 members who evaluated specific areas of both products in depth through a series of onsite demonstrations. The process culminated in the district’s selection of Synergy SIS, which scored highest in over 70% of functional areas.
Synergy SIS is a comprehensive student information management system that goes beyond the boundaries of a traditional SIS, providing the real-time student data that educators need to improve learning outcomes for students while helping districts streamline processes and increase collaboration. As the foundation of the Synergy Education Platform ecosystem, Synergy SIS makes it easy for districts to extend capabilities as needs change, with seamlessly integrated modules for assessment, MTSS, learning management, special education and 504 plan management, and analytics. Synergy offers 7 role-based mobile apps and a flexible kiosk app enabling self-service in a variety of settings.
Among the reasons for selecting Synergy, the evaluation team cited consistently high scores on the district’s most heavily weighted criteria in key functional areas, including scheduling, courses, grade reporting, and teacher and family functions. The team also noted the modern user experience, opportunities for growth and efficiency, reporting insights, enhanced communication capabilities, and improved access to information for parents, as well as the system’s adaptability and customization potential.
“The thing that stood out almost right away was a consideration for the user experience that I have not seen as much in other products,” said Mike Wilkes, Chief Information Officer at Geneva 304. “The way Edupoint lays out the controls on the page, the different ways that users can interact with forms, or the ability to customize the screen and what the user can see all felt like a novel approach to how to build the system by considering what might matter to someone who’s going to be working in it all day every day.”
The team spoke with several Illinois districts that had already migrated to Synergy SIS, receiving positive feedback about the solution’s ability to meet state-specific needs and boosting confidence that Geneva would have a user group to collaborate and problem-solve with moving forward.
“With Synergy SIS, Geneva 304 has selected a comprehensive, scalable student information management solution that can not only meet current needs but also grow seamlessly with the district into the future,” said Rob Wilson, President & Chief Innovation Officer at Edupoint. “We are pleased to welcome Geneva to the Synergy family and look forward to a longstanding partnership in support of empowered students and educational excellence.”
